Alpaca Exports

 Silverstream Alpaca Stud is a licensed alpaca exporter and owns and operates two on- farm pre-export isolation  facilities at its Butchers Road address. Silverstream set up protocols with the USA and the European Union and is now exporting to various countries within the EU.

We welcome enquiries from overseas for the hire of our isolation facilities.

With tight restrictions on the export of alpacas from South America and small herds spread elsewhere, there is a worldwide shortage of good breeding stock.

 For our overseas customers, we will air freight your alpacas to your home country. The cost of exporting animals to Europe is dependent upon the number of animals travelling in a crate. As a rule of thumb, you should allow NZ$4,500 to NZ$5,000 per alpaca. This price includes New Zealand quarantine, Biosecurity New Zealand inspection and blood testing, microchipping, road transport to Auckland, NZ customs clearance and air freight to your home country.

Air freight charges are rising all the time - you would need to check current export costs at time of export.

Other factors in our favour include:

• A low exchange rate compared to the Euro and the English Pound
• Established import/export protocols with the United Kingdom and many European countries
• New Zealand's international reputation in agricultural exports and the export of live animals
• Strict Government regulations controlling the export of live animals

Regulations relating to alpaca export vary from country to country. You need to be aware of the following:

• On farm isolation of animals from all other stock
• Minimum quarantine periods prior to export
• Minimum quarantine periods after arrival in country of destination
• Documentation procedures: health certificates, export/import permits, proof of ownership, GST applications
• Freight and insurance
• Coordination of agistment, transport and insurance prior
